Buddhist Temple Protector Footman

Wee man at the protector's feet

To enter the grounds of a Buddhist temple in Korea you must walk through a very colourful, yet intimidating gate.  On both sides of you are gargantuan wooden statues of old school Korean warriors brandishing swords.  I asked my friend & bartender, Mr. Yun, what they were for and he said, “for protection.”  The photo above is of a small statue at the feet of a giant protector at Sam Gwang temple (삼광사), on the mountain next to Busan.

I was drawn to him because of his blue hair, big eyes, and Jesus-esque ribs.  Not to mention that the look on his face is fantastic.
