Reality Check: Japan
Found this is an old journal. You know those moments in your life where you have to physically stop and figure out what you’ve gotten yourself into? Well this was one of those.
November 2, 2006
Reality check: You are on a high speed train crossing the northern half of Kyushu Island, Japan. Its quarter past 10 in the a.m. and you spent all last night drinking other people’s beer on a boat from Pusan, Korea, to Fukouka, Japan, speaking a mixture of English, Korean, Spanish and two words of French. Now you’ve caught a few hours of sleep and are killing your hangover with a cucumber sandwich and a stainless steel bottle of Coke.
When you get off this train in Beppu, you have to find your friend, Tyler. This task may be difficult as you don’t know his phone number or address and he may or may not know that you are coming. You sent him a warning email four days ago but never received a response. To further complicate things: YOU DON’T SPEAK OR READ JAPANESE.
This should be fun…
